Silver Star Residential Construction Completed by Early August
The Silver Star area has already served as a silver mine and a pioneering ski lift operation. Now, it’s ready for its third incarnation: home base for a fortunate few residents, nonprofit organizations and amenity-based businesses. The swimming pool is open, the offices buzz with activity, and the trails beckon. Most exciting, all residential construction at Silver Star will be completed by early August.

“It is thrilling to have watched the developers George Bryan, Rory Murphy and Chris Conabee become actualized into the vibrant community that Silver Star is today,” marvels Michael LaPay, sales agent for Silver Star and a Prudential Utah Realtor®. “I’m so pleased to see families swimming in the pool and owners enjoying the beautiful summer Check out the weather from their decks.” Not only is the pool and hot tub area fully furnished and operational, but also so is the private locker room for townhomes and stacked flats. “The locker room is great for storing golf clubs and muddy hiking boots,” says LaPay.

While construction at Silver Star is only a few details away from completion, sales at Silver Star are only a few units away from sell-out. By press time, 80 residences had closed, with 14 others under contract. “Of our 98 total homes [both cottages and condominiums] only four remain available,” LaPay explains. “Of course, there are re-sales available, in different floor plans and sizes, to potential buyers, too.”

The only construction projects still underway are the clubhouse for the Silver Star cottages and the hilltrac lift, a private ski tram for owners. Both projects will be completed by the opening of the coming ski season. “Also soon to open are a host of cool amenities, including a café, a sports equipment and rental shop, and a private club called The Shaft,” explains Chris Conabee.

A Season of Success
Silver Star is proving to be popular with not only owners, but visitors as well, as Steve Perkins can attest. Perkins is the general manager of Premier Resorts at Silver Star, which leases a space onsite and handles much of the rental reservations and property management for the Silver Star community. “We had a tremendous response for our premiere winter season,” says Perkins. “And, we’re looking at a strong showing for our introductory summer season, bolstered by the golf packages we’re currently offering.” For rental reservations, call 800/545.7669. Quick Hits on Silver Star’s Visitors

  • During Silver Star’s first full winter, rental reservations were sold-out during the Christmas holiday, the Sundance Film Festival, President’s Week and Spring Break
  • About $250,000 of lift tickets to Park City Mountain Resort were sold from the Silver Star ticket office during the 07/08 winter season
  • Looking ahead, all available condos are already booked for next Christmas, with Sundance and President’s Week filling up fast.

Right Out Your Door
Not only is Silver Star located right on the slopes for wintertime skiing and riding, but it’s also only steps from the Spiro Trail, a forested singletrack that directly accesses Park City’s entire 350-mile public trail network. “Park City is a tight-knit trails community,” says Carol Potter, executive director of Mountain Trails Foundation. “The relationship between Mountain Trails, Park City Mountain Resort, Basin Recreation and Silver Star is a clear demonstration of the cooperation and collaboration that benefits both locals and visitors.”

The collaboration Potter speaks of extends beyond jurisdictional boundaries and property lines and finds professional trail crews working alongside Silver Star and Park City Mountain Resort employees to maintain trail conditions and signage. “Silver Star fosters a very polite trail user community that allows hikers, bikers, equestrians and wintertime snowshoers to all use the trails with very little user conflict,” offers Potter.

The trails surrounding Silver Star are home to some exciting events this summer. Held on August 9, the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase is a grueling 16-mile trail run with 3,000 feet of elevation gain. The race starts at the base of Park City Mountain Resort and takes runners past Silver Star on the Spiro Trail to the top of Jupiter Peak, before looping down to the resort base again. On September 5, the Mid-Mountain Marathon is quickly gaining recognition as one of the nation’s most scenic—and most challenging—off-road marathons. Set mostly at the 8,000-feet elevation mark, the race takes runners from the Silver Lake area of Deer Valley to the base of The Canyons Resort.

For mere mortals, the trails around Silver Star offer plenty of opportunities for more leisurely hikes and bike cruises, too. Check out the sidebar for a few noteworthy loops. And, to pick up a Mountain Trails 2008 trail map, stop by the Silver Star sales office or any local outdoor shop.

Yes, We’re giving you... the Shaft
Slated to begin its remodel in the autumn, The Shaft is envisioned as a cozy, rustic private club serving drinks, as well as homey food like thick burgers and hearty appetizers. The focal point of the space will be the original mining shaft itself, framed under a glass wall and lit up behind the bar. The club plans host weekly live music performances underground.
